When disasters strike, thousands of households often lose power and can become isolated by floods, winds, downed trees, wildfires and more. As refrigeration fails, food becomes unsafe to eat.

Thanks to a recent agreement with Operation BBQ Relief, The Salvation Army will deliver fresh BBQ meals provided by award-winning chefs to disaster survivors and first responders. Co-founder and CEO Stan Hays met with Commissioner Kenneth G. Hodder, National Commander, at the Army’s National Headquarters earlier this year to sign a memorandum of understanding for future disaster response partnerships. The welcome addition adds to the Meals Ready to Eat, cold-cut sandwiches, hot soups and beverages distributed at mobile canteens.

Operation BBQ Relief was founded after a massive tornado struck Joplin, MI in 2011. The organization’s founders gathered with the intention of feeding first responders and community members, which led to the formation of Operation BBQ Relief.
